Back to school!

Hylton Crew was back at Freshman Orientation!  Our Crew team is growing and looking for new rowers. Get fresh air, excersize and meet lots of new friends. Email Coach Lewis at hyltoncrewcoaches@outlook.com to find out more details.




2026-2027 Season Tryouts

Tryout dates for the 2026-2027 school year are TBD. Show up for winter conditioning now so you're already ahead of the curve.

All:

  • 10 minute run
  • Situps (1 minute): 20- Novice, 32- Returning Rowers
  • Squat (1 Minute): 20- Novice, 32- Returning Rowers
  • Lunge (1 minute): 20- Novice. 32- Returning Rowers
  • Plank (1 minute)
  • Dynamic Warmup

New rowers:

  • Pick Drill (following directions) 5 minutes

Returning Rowers:

  • Last year's 2kpr + 10 seconds (if your 2k was 2:02, shoot for a split of 2:12 or less)

winter conditioning

Winter conditioning has begun. Everyone is welcome. During this time athletes participate in building endurance and strength for the upcoming regatta season. Each year starting the Monday after Thanksgiving and continuing throughout February, rowers meet four (4) days a week to work out. Rowers meet in the Commons at Hylton High School after class with the following schedule:

  • Mondays (4p-6p)
  • Tuesdays (4:30p-6:30p)
  • Wednesdays (None)
  • Thursdays (4:30p-6:30p)
  • Fridays (4p-6p)


2026-2027 Season Kickoff information night

indoor rowing tank excursion

Last January, several Hylton students, parents, coaches, and board members joined with others from Garfield High School and Potomac High School for a field trip to Maverick Rowing's indoor rowing tank at Landsdowne. For two hours, everyone had a chance to try out the indoor rowing tank as well as simulate Erg sprints. The indoor rowing tank allows up to eight (8) people to experience rowing oars in tanks of water without the risk of flipping over a boat.

Hylton Rowing Competes in National event

Hylton Crew continues the tradition of competing at the SRAA National Regatta in Camden, New Jersey. Rowers Ahna Boyce and Ginger St. Louis with alternate Ashley Kelley and Coach Melissa Ward represented Hylton Crew at the SRAA National regatta on 23 May 2025; finishing ahead of teams from Florida, Tennessee and two from New Jersey.  Weather was a big factor in racing, forcing the canceling of semifinals for the 16 entries in this event. Congratulations to Hylton Crew for a great season of racing!

It was another great REGATTA for Hylton Rowing

At the Ryz Obuchowicz Regatta freshman Simon Mihalovich took on upperclassman in the men's single event. Fiona Jumba, Maddie Burns, Michaela Crosby and Paige Tallent-Fox raced more experienced rowers beating Justice easily. Taking first place and beating 3 other senior boats were Ahna Boyce, Ginger St. Louis, Caitlin Cave and Ashley Kelley. 

Hylton Crew Successful at the Darrell Winslow Regatta!

At the Darrell Winslow Regatta 39 schools entered the regatta, and Hylton showed them how it was done! All 5 boats rowed well. Placing 1st and 3rd in the singles were Ahna Boyce and Ashley Kelley respectfully. In the Junior Women's Quad, Caitlin Cave, Hannah Matthes, Maddie Burns and Ginger St. Louis had a strong 3rd place finish.

Hylton comes in 1st place at walter mess regatta

Hylton Crew took on 32 teams from Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania in the Walter Mess Regatta. Congratulations go to the Women's Junior Quad led by Ahna Boyce, Caitlin Cave, Maddie Burns and Ginger St. Louis for their first-place finish.

Hylton Girls win 1st race

Hylton Crew won their first race of the season. Rowing a double, Ahna Boyce and Ashley Kelley edged past the competition to take first place at the Polar Bear Regatta.

Hylton Crew is not a department, program or agency of Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) but a separate legal entity comprised of parents and other supporters of the Hylton Crew team.
